Union Minister Dr. Kan Zaw inspects the Customs Department (Head Office) and operations of Yangon International Airport’s import, export and passenger cargo inspections
Yangon, December 19
Union Minister for Finance and Revenue Dr. Kan Zaw, Deputy Minister U Han Win Aung and officials heard the Director General’s report of the Customs Department on operations of the Customs Department, the process of the implementation of National Single Window, and office work at the Zayar Thiha Hall of the Customs Department (Head Office) in Yangon this morning.
Regarding the report of the Director General, Union Minister highlighted that the process of clearing and exporting goods and trading is important. It is needed to be completed the implementation of National Single Window because it is to be processed to a modern cargo clearance system which connects international and intra-ASEAN cargo clearance transactions in line with the guidelines of the World Customs Organization. He urged staffs of the Customs Department to emphasize the importance of facilitating smooth export and import activities systematically. Moreover, the staffs have to take strict measures in order to prevent the import of illegal goods into the country. At the same time, he urged officials to arrange short-term and long-term trainings for the staffs within the department and abroad to improve their working skills and to handle modern inspection machines.
In the afternoon, the Union Minister accompanied with officials arrived at the Yangon International Airport and the Air Cargo Terminal. At the meeting hall, Director General of Customs Department and officials from Yangon Aerodrome Co., Ltd. (YACL) and Sky Cargo Terminal (SCT) explained the conducting of import, export and passenger goods inspection activities at the Airport.
Then, the Union Minister inspected the customs operations of Cargo Clearance activities at the airport, and made instruction and coordinated necessary actions.
